In Western Australia (WA), the Animal Welfare Act 2002 (the Act) and its accompanying regulations provide the legal framework for ensuring all animals in WA have appropriate standards of care. While the NFF supports the intent of the Act to promote and protect the welfare of animals, we believe that amendments are required to improve the operation of the Act and to provide for the management of livestock as a distinct animal class. It is also important that the Act provides for the appropriate enforcement of the Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines.
