The race to a $100 billion Australian agriculture industry by 2030 is on. And for the first time, Woolworths and the National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) are seeking the nation’s most innovative minds to lead the charge.
Joining forces to launch the AgriEmpower Scholarship, Woolworths and the NFF are investing $400,000 over the next four years to empower 20 exceptional young professionals.
“This is an innovative approach to running at our $100 billion by 2030 goal, by investing in the young thinkers and doers who will help us get there,” NFF President David Jochinke said.
“Whether your passion lies in technology, sustainability, community engagement, or any other area that will drive the Australian agriculture industry forward, we encourage you to apply.”
The AgriEmpower Scholarship will provide $20,000 to each recipient, to go towards their nominated project or to help advance their skills, knowledge or experience in any way that supports their ambitions to contribute to the future prosperity of the sector.
Applications are now open and people aged 25-40 are encouraged to submit their proposals for how they would intend to use the scholarship.
NFF President David Jochinke said: “This is about actively investing in the next generation of agricultural leaders who will drive our industry to our 2030 goal, using fresh thinking that is focused, innovative and invested in our ag future.
“The Scholarship is unique because it doesn’t require participants to fit a particular mould. It’s the opposite – we want young people with a range of experiences, ideas and skills to be the recipients of this opportunity. It’s driven, innovative thinkers today, who will lead the charge in reaching $100 billion by 2030.
This partnership between the NFF and Woolworths demonstrates a shared commitment to building a stronger future for Australian agriculture and is just the beginning of a deeper partnership that will see the NFF and Woolworths collaborate on other key initiatives to support and advance the sector.
Annette Karantoni, Woolworths Retail Managing Director added, “As Australia’s Fresh Food People, our connection to Australian farmers is fundamental. Our partnership with the NFF, including the AgriEmpower Scholarship, demonstrates our commitment to the long-term strength and innovation of the Australian agriculture sector. We believe in empowering individuals who will drive innovation and sustainability in the sector.”
Scholarship recipients have 18 months to use their funds on their nominated project or professional development. Participants will also attend events and workshops run by Woolworths and the NFF.
