The NFF’s April 2008 submission to the Senate Select Committee on Agriculture and Related Industries notes that fertiliser and chemical prices have more than doubled over the last 12 months – eating into farmer margins and coming on top of mounting costs – forcing farmers to adjust their production systems, often at the expense of productivity.
