Deputy Prime Minster, Barnaby Joyce, Senator Derryn Hinch, Senator Richard Di Natale, Shadow Minister for Agriculture, Joel Fitzgibbon, and leading businessmen Andrew Forrest and Anthony Pratt are part of a dynamic and diverse speaker line-up to be showcased at the coming National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) Congress.
The Congress, staged every two years in Canberra, will this year be held on 26 and 27 October and feature a range of speakers from across agriculture, politics, the food supply chain, climate research, business, technology and innovation.
NFF Chief Executive Officer, Tony Mahar, said a particular highlight of the program would a series of high-calibre panel discussions debating a range of issues important to modern food and fibre production in Australia.
“One of our feature panels will include perspectives from crossbenchers including Senator Derryn Hinch, The Hon Bob Katter MP, and Senator Nick Xenophon on the future of agriculture,” Mr Mahar said.
“Other panels will cover a range of issues from how we grow Australia’s food businesses and exports, Australia’s place in world markets, the future of farm innovation, innovations to manage climate change, telecommunications in the bush and the role of R&D.”
Senator Richard Di Natale, Senator Bridget McKenzie and The Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP will also discuss their views on the digital future of agriculture.
Mr Mahar said the NFF was delighted to have coordinated such a diverse and high quality range of speakers to lead the conversation on how Australia best positions itself to make the most of the opportunities driven by unprecedented demand for high quality agricultural products.
“This is an exciting time to be in the business of producing food and fibre given our firm reputation for producing the best in the world and surging demand for what we produce,” he said.
“But this excitement and opportunity does not come without challenge.
“The NFF Congress will be a melting pot of ideas and discussion of issues pertinent to the sector and I warmly invite those with an interest in the food and fibre industries to join us in Canberra.”
