THE ranks of the National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) have been boosted yet again today as Ridley Corporation joined the peak farm body as a full Associate Member.
“We’re very pleased with the broad spectrum of groups that are coming on board with the NFF,” NFF President David Crombie said. “It’s a vast array of commodities and interests that mirrors the dynamic and diverse nature of modern farm activity.”
Mr Crombie said that Ridley Corporation manufactures and markets animal feed supplements, stockfeed and salt. Its two Australian businesses are Ridley AgriProducts, which is Australia’s leading supplier of stockfeed, and Cheetham Salt, Australia’s largest producer and refiner of salt.
“The inclusion of Ridley Corporation as a full Associate Member of the NFF can only strengthen our engagement across issues that affect Australian farmers as integration of agricultural activity is set to expand,” Mr Crombie added.
“I’m sure that the insights and experiences of Ridley Corporation will enrich the opportunities for the NFF and Australian farmers to engage in new issues and policy development to ensure our vibrant farm sector is stronger for the challenges ahead.”
Ridley Corporation Managing Director and CEO John Murray said his organisation was very pleased to become a member of NFF.
“Issues that affect the business environment for farmers and agriculture affect our business,” he explained. “We are keen to contribute to the national policy debate on issues such as climate change policy, regional infrastructure, taxation and water… to name just a few.
“Under the NFF’s new membership structure, our ability to engage and lend our voice to policy debates, we hope, can bring a new perspective to ensure a mutually beneficial future for all parties.”
Under the new NFF model full Associate Members are limited to a combined vote of no more than 40%. Information on the NFF membership structure is available from the NFF’s http://www.nff.org.au/farm-organisations.html[Membership Proposal].
