The NFF’s 8 April 2009 submission the Senate Select Committee on Climate Policy notes that it is widely recognised that an emissions trading scheme is an inappropriate policy mechanism for the Australian agricultural sector. In addition to the potential for perverse economic and social impacts from the CPRS, the NFF is concerned about the potential for the CPRS to lead to significant perverse environmental outcomes in areas such as water runoff, biodiversity, and Australia’s ability to continue to make a contribution to global food and fibre supplies.
