Feral cats are a highly successful invasive pest species in Australia and are a key threat to over 140 nationally listed threatened species. They have played a major role in 27 of 34 mammal extinctions since 1788 and according to CSIRO estimates, kill approximately 1.8 billion species each year (equating to 2000 individuals every minute).
