National grains policy council meets

Representatives from across the Australian grains industry met in Melbourne on 30 April for the third National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) Grains Policy Council meeting.
“The NFF Grains Policy Council was established in 2012 as a platform to unite organisations to ensure a unified voice on grains policy issues,” NFF CEO Matt Linnegar said.
“The Council has progressed since its inception and are making ground in achieving agreed principles on the operations of the Council and what is required for grain producers nationally.
“While discussing the operating principles was a key agenda item, the Council also discussed the proposed test weight increase for wheat by Grain Trade Australia and pools performance over the last harvest” Mr Linnegar said.
The Grains Policy Council includes representatives from NFF, Grain Growers Limited, NSW Farmers, AgForce Queensland, the Victorian Farmers’ Federation, Grain Producers SA, WAFarmers and the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association. In addition, Grain Producers Australia (GPA) participated in the meeting.
The Council will seek to appoint an Independent Chair and Secretariat for the Council in coming months as it continues its work behind the scenes preparing key policy documents for review at the next meeting, scheduled for July.
