China Cattle Health Protocol: NFF Statement

Australian producers will soon have more options to sell their cattle overseas following the signing of an unprecedented cattle health protocol between Australia and China in Canberra yesterday.
The landmark agreement is a significant step towards new trade for Australian feeder and slaughter cattle into China and is testament to our reputation for high quality, safe and sustainable produce.
Australian agriculture faces enormous opportunity as the Asian region grows in economic prosperity, leading to greater demand for Australian produce.
Providing Australian cattle producers with a larger range of export destinations positions the industry to better withstand market volatility and increase competitiveness.
The focus now shifts to the negotiation of commercial agreements, establishing Exporter Supply Chain Assurance System (ESCAS) arrangements and securing import permits from Chinese authorities.
After years of sustained effort, the Minister for Agriculture Barnaby Joyce MP and his department have achieved an outcome of which both nations can be proud.
